Here are some FAQs about becoming a member of our nationally recognized organization.

Q: How do I join SWE/Where can I sign up for SWE?
A: It's as easy as 1-2-3! Subscribe to our e-mail list (above) and we will periodically e-mail you about events and meetings. Come to the meetings, meet more women engineers, get your grub on, and ENJOY! You can also sign up during UCSD student org. fairs - we usually have a table out there on Library Walk at these events.

Q: How much does it cost to join SWE?
A: Zilch. Joining UC San Diego's chapter of SWE does not cost a cent. However, we encourage you to join the national SWE organization. It costs $20, but the benefits are worthwhile:
  • Network with women engineers from academia, government, and industry
  • Scholarships
  • Reduced fees for national and regional conferences where you can network, network, network!
  • Receive the SWE Magazine, which covers achievements of women engineers, career development, career guidance, technical topics, and activities
  • Increase the visibility of SWE and women engineers
  • Make a difference through volunteerism at the section, regional, and national levels
Sign up to be a member of national SWE here.

Q: When are your meetings?
A: Meetings are usually held every other week. Check out the calendar or subscribe to our e-mail list for info on locations and times.

Q: I am intersted in SWE, but I'm not sure if I want to stay an engineering major... I want to meet other women in my engineering major!
A: Poi-fect! SWE is just the organization for you. You can learn more about the trials of being a woman engineer and meet other women in your major for advice. The SWE Big Sis/Lil' Sis program connects women engineers through the powers of mentoring. Mentors can provide answers to first-year/transfer women engineers to ensure a smooth transition to UCSD during the academic quarters. There are many on-campus professional and non-professional opportunities for all our Big Sis and Lil' Sis to spend time with each other. Who knows? You just might learn something from each other.

Q: What kinds of social events do you have?
A: Some annual social events to look forward to are the Meet S'mores Engineers Bonfire at La Jolla Shores, Sophomore Women Engineers Recognition Banquet (SWERB), Night of Industry, and various Big Sis/Lil' Sis events. We will have new events like Study Jam and we hope to have more events with other engineering orgs. Mosey over to the 'About' page for more information about the events.
